WebChart (AWCS)
Product Description:
- Internet access to worldwide ARCS and ENCs
- Intended for shore-based usage only, not for navigation.
- Automatically updated weekly by the UKHO.
- Users access the charts with a user name and password.
- Users purchase access to the service via an Admiralty Distributor with flexible licensing options available - 3, 6, 9, 12 months.
- Users can pan and zoom charts, and a simple distance tool is provided along with a facility to print the screen image.
- Locations can be searched using a lat/long reference or by a keyword searching chart titles.
Target Customer(s):
Aimed at office based, on-shore chart users of shipping companies and navies. It is not intended for use offshore, or for any direct navigational purpose. The primary shore-based users are:
- Port Safety – this function verifies a port is safe for the entry of a specific vessel
- Fleet management – responsible for the management of the vessels at sea, supplies, repairs, scheduling etc
- Brokering – responsible for finding cargoes for vessels and vice versa
- Incident management – responsible for managing the aftermath of a collision, grounding or spillage
These functions are common across all shipping companies although the scale of operations vary. The main market for WebChart is considered to be the mid-range shipping companies with managed fleet sizes from 5 to 100 vessels.

WebChart is a channel for new datasets. It represents an alternative to the sharing of paper charts in an office environment.
